Tiffany Haddish – As real as it gets!

So not too long ago I went to see the movie, Girl’s Trip. At this time I had never heard of Tiffany Haddish, but as I watched the movie I began to realize how amazing this actress/comedian truly is. Her character in this movie was so relatable and funny. I totally saw myself as I watched her on the big screen.

This movie caused me to want to know more about this super talented lady. Thus, I read her book, The Black Unicorn. As I read each chapter my mouth dropped. This lady was truly transparent, real and didn’t hold back her life experiences regardless of what others might think. And because of that and her persistence in accepting what life throws her way, she has become a break out star. She inspires me beyond words.

One day I would love to just meet this lady, say thank you for sharing her life with me and have some laughs. She’s totally fits the description of what I would want in a sister/friend. Meeting her may be a long shot to some, but I believe the universe will one day align it that we meet and eat some joyful greens. (I also love to garden.) Until then Ms. Tiffany keep doing your thing and being the best you God created you to be.

Pay it foward

This weekend I took my husband to Louisiana to cap off his birthday celebrations. Despite the fact that my husband is born on Valentine’s, which is ultimately my favorite hoilday, I always want him to feel special as well. This year his birthday fell on a Wednesday, so we waited until the weekend to engage in our fun activities. Saturday we went to a new restaurant here in town named, The Whiskey Cake. The food was delicious. After which we went to see the new movie, Black Panther. Then on Sunday, we drove to the casino to gamble a little, but most importantly to eat at the buffet. You see, my husband LOVES food!!! So taking him there to eat all he could made his day!

As we stood in line, there was this guy standing there at the register talking with the cashier lady. I don’t really know what they were talking about because there was a couple ahead of us, and plus I try not to listen to other peoples conversations. But then the cashier asked the couple in front of us what they wanted to drink. I don’t know how much English this couple knew, but they knew enough to say what type of drink they wanted after being confused why the lady asked them that.

Then, she proceeded to say something else to the guy at the register. She then asks us what we wanted to drink. I was really confused at this point because they only ask what you want to drink when it’s time to pay and enter the buffet. Plus, the couple was still in front of us and the man was still standing in front of the cashier.

I’m guessing the lady saw how confused everyone was looking so she finally says, “He just paid for you all!” My mouth dropped. Me and my hubby were both in shock. The couple in front of us didn’t seem as excited and appreciative as we were that is why I don’t think they spoke that much English. I really don’t think they knew exactly what just happened. But both me and my husband showered the man with thanks and God bless you’s!

I have no idea why this man did this or why we were at the right place at the right time. But it did remind me of God’s love and how we should give to others and pay it forward. I plan to be a blessing to someone else this week.

2016

I can only speak for myself when I say 2016 has been an amazing year! I don’t really write resolutions, but I do make goals. I do want to be better at the end of a year than I was at the beginning. I am convinced I achieved this.

At times maintaining focus was quite difficult with raising two young boys, running them to various things in and out of school. I also became a newlywed, so now I must also give my husband attention. And I work full time like most Americans. I admit, feeling tired most days is an understatement. Yet, I try to press ahead so I’m not a waster of the time God has granted me with.

I blogged, I published two books, I went on two vacations, I got married, I celebrated one year as a homeowner, I started a non profit for children, joined a new church, and I became a volunteer at an elderly facility. Yep, I stayed busy, but it has been an amazing year.

My focus every year is to be a better person I was the year before. I also want to be a blessing to more people every year. Helping people in need is my motivation and passion. I want people to know God has not forgotten about them and I want them to experience his love by anything I can do to help.

2016 has been amazing. Each year seems better than the last. I am grateful for God’s favor on my life. I am appreciative of all his blessings. I’m excited to see how 2017 will unfold. Excited to see the new people I will meet. Excited to see the places I will go. Excited to see the many people I will be able to help.

How was your year?

My love for children…my journey to start a non profit.

One day I asked God how could I make a difference in this world? With so much saddness going on around us, how could little ole’ me bring a smile to someone else’s face? Then he told me…

You see, I love children. I would of had more than the two I have, but I quickly learned where babies came from and I wasn’t too sold on the idea. Sorry I digressed!

As I sat watching t.v., something I rarely do, I prayed and listened. God showed me a vision of celebrating with children on their birth day. These particular children I was to celebrate with were not your typical children. Rather, these children would be from low income homes or those living in shelters.

I was blessed to grow up in a home and my birthday was celebrated every year by my mom. But, so often these children are overlooked due to finances or other reasons.

This is why I wanted to start a non profit organization geared towards surprising these children with a personalized birthday party.

This organization is still in the developing stage because with everything comes a cost. Would you please be a blessing to me and the future children I plan to celebrate by giving a donation towards the filing fees with lawyers and the IRS? Any amount would truly be a blessing. Thank you again and I’m super excited about what is about to take place in the lives of children.

Do your part!

“Faith without works is dead.” James 2:17

I revisit this scripture often because I am one who loves to stretch my faith and expand my territory. God has placed purpose within me and I am determined to carry it out while I still have time on this earth.

So often people want God to simply drop a miracle in their lap without them ever having to do any leg work. But, unfortunately that’s not how things work. Yes, prayer does work. But, in order for prayer to work sometimes you gotta put in work. Jobs just don’t came knocking at your door. You must apply. Marriage will never happen unless you date and find the one for for you. Happiness will never come unless you first realize what makes you happy.

Currently, I’m the process of writing my first novel. I’ve self published in the past, with seven books under my belt. But, now I want to try something different. I want to submit to a publisher and lock in a book deal. Ultimately, I want to be in the NY TIMES BEST SELLER LIST. This goal I have set for myself is not unattainable. But, my first step is to write.

You see, for me my goal is to be a published author known to the world. While your goals or passion maybe something etirely different. But, one thing is the same, we both must put in the work to attain our goals and dreams. True, there maybe some times when we are tired or we get discouraged, but we can’t let that stop us. God is watching how we handle disappointments. He is watching how we focus on the task at hand. He wants to do his part, but he needs to see how serious you are about your part.

For me, starting this month of September I’ve written out monthly goals to help me stay focused. With that, I must use my time very wisely. Daily I must maximize on the time I have even during my lunch breaks at work. My goals will not be crazy, stretching myself thin type of goals. But, they will be in place to keep me on track, accountable and focused.

Whatever your goals are, I want to encourage you to break them down into smaller parts so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Find an accountability partner who will check in with you and make sure you are staying on track. Never get discouraged if you miss the mark one day or week. But, make sure you make up for it at another time.

I truly believe the more God sees us working our gift and focusing on our purpose that he will open doors only he can open.

Flourish!

When you are born, God placed everything you would ever need to succeed within you. As you mature and discovery more about yourself, your gifts and abilities, it’s up to you to flourish in this life. Yes, along the way God is going to help you and open doors for you. But, he is not going to bring the door to you. You must be a person of action and make things happen for yourself.

People who flourish are risk takers. They are not afraid to take a leap of faith. They are the ones who understand that faith without works is pointless. They understand that failing is apart of succeeding.

My prayer is that everyone would begin to live outside of their comfort zone and expand their territory of thinking. We serve a big God who wants to do above and beyond what we could ever imagine.

But it all starts with you…
