2016

I can only speak for myself when I say 2016 has been an amazing year! I don’t really write resolutions, but I do make goals. I do want to be better at the end of a year than I was at the beginning. I am convinced I achieved this.

At times maintaining focus was quite difficult with raising two young boys, running them to various things in and out of school. I also became a newlywed, so now I must also give my husband attention. And I work full time like most Americans. I admit, feeling tired most days is an understatement. Yet, I try to press ahead so I’m not a waster of the time God has granted me with.

I blogged, I published two books, I went on two vacations, I got married, I celebrated one year as a homeowner, I started a non profit for children, joined a new church, and I became a volunteer at an elderly facility. Yep, I stayed busy, but it has been an amazing year.

My focus every year is to be a better person I was the year before. I also want to be a blessing to more people every year. Helping people in need is my motivation and passion. I want people to know God has not forgotten about them and I want them to experience his love by anything I can do to help.

2016 has been amazing. Each year seems better than the last. I am grateful for God’s favor on my life. I am appreciative of all his blessings. I’m excited to see how 2017 will unfold. Excited to see the new people I will meet. Excited to see the places I will go. Excited to see the many people I will be able to help.

How was your year?

My love for children…my journey to start a non profit.

One day I asked God how could I make a difference in this world? With so much saddness going on around us, how could little ole’ me bring a smile to someone else’s face? Then he told me…

You see, I love children. I would of had more than the two I have, but I quickly learned where babies came from and I wasn’t too sold on the idea. Sorry I digressed!

As I sat watching t.v., something I rarely do, I prayed and listened. God showed me a vision of celebrating with children on their birth day. These particular children I was to celebrate with were not your typical children. Rather, these children would be from low income homes or those living in shelters.

I was blessed to grow up in a home and my birthday was celebrated every year by my mom. But, so often these children are overlooked due to finances or other reasons.

This is why I wanted to start a non profit organization geared towards surprising these children with a personalized birthday party.

This organization is still in the developing stage because with everything comes a cost. Would you please be a blessing to me and the future children I plan to celebrate by giving a donation towards the filing fees with lawyers and the IRS? Any amount would truly be a blessing. Thank you again and I’m super excited about what is about to take place in the lives of children.

“Faith without works is dead.” James 2:17

I revisit this scripture often because I am one who loves to stretch my faith and expand my territory. God has placed purpose within me and I am determined to carry it out while I still have time on this earth.

So often people want God to simply drop a miracle in their lap without them ever having to do any leg work. But, unfortunately that’s not how things work. Yes, prayer does work. But, in order for prayer to work sometimes you gotta put in work. Jobs just don’t came knocking at your door. You must apply. Marriage will never happen unless you date and find the one for for you. Happiness will never come unless you first realize what makes you happy.

Currently, I’m the process of writing my first novel. I’ve self published in the past, with seven books under my belt. But, now I want to try something different. I want to submit to a publisher and lock in a book deal. Ultimately, I want to be in the NY TIMES BEST SELLER LIST. This goal I have set for myself is not unattainable. But, my first step is to write.

You see, for me my goal is to be a published author known to the world. While your goals or passion maybe something etirely different. But, one thing is the same, we both must put in the work to attain our goals and dreams. True, there maybe some times when we are tired or we get discouraged, but we can’t let that stop us. God is watching how we handle disappointments. He is watching how we focus on the task at hand. He wants to do his part, but he needs to see how serious you are about your part.

For me, starting this month of September I’ve written out monthly goals to help me stay focused. With that, I must use my time very wisely. Daily I must maximize on the time I have even during my lunch breaks at work. My goals will not be crazy, stretching myself thin type of goals. But, they will be in place to keep me on track, accountable and focused.

Whatever your goals are, I want to encourage you to break them down into smaller parts so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Find an accountability partner who will check in with you and make sure you are staying on track. Never get discouraged if you miss the mark one day or week. But, make sure you make up for it at another time.

I truly believe the more God sees us working our gift and focusing on our purpose that he will open doors only he can open.

Flourish!

When you are born, God placed everything you would ever need to succeed within you. As you mature and discovery more about yourself, your gifts and abilities, it’s up to you to flourish in this life. Yes, along the way God is going to help you and open doors for you. But, he is not going to bring the door to you. You must be a person of action and make things happen for yourself.

People who flourish are risk takers. They are not afraid to take a leap of faith. They are the ones who understand that faith without works is pointless. They understand that failing is apart of succeeding.

My prayer is that everyone would begin to live outside of their comfort zone and expand their territory of thinking. We serve a big God who wants to do above and beyond what we could ever imagine.

But it all starts with you…

Status Change…

I personally love social media. I love seeing all the new and exciting things my “friends” near and far are getting into. It helps me to see their children grow up, pray for them in their times of needs and also it can be used to advertise business ventures and ideas.

But, what throws me for a loop every time is when people are quick to change their ststus to:

In a relationship…

Um…weren’t you just in a relationship not too long ago? Wasn’t that other person the love of your life? Your post said y’all were soul mates. So where did that person go? I get people are excited about new love interest. And trust your true friends are excited for you too. But, we just can’t keep up with these new status updates. Whatever happened to waiting until you both are really serious to blast your love across social media? I mean the type of love that has you in a “courting” relationship, or with a ring on.

I get everyone is different and people can do as they choose. It’s just hard for the outsider who is still happy about the love relationship they thought you were still in only to find out, you recently posted pics of your new boo. Well, maybe I should had know y’all relationship had ended cause there were no more “in love” pictures posted across my news feed.

Okay…didn’t get memo you moved on. But, glad you’re happy again. Well, until the next status change.

Regarding my relationships, I’m private until I know it’s serious. Not girlfriend/boyfriend serious. I mean this is my forever boo, my hubby type of serious. After my divorce, yes I dated guys, but no one was about to get posted across my Facebook as my new boo. I never posted pics of guys, just me and my children. I bet people either felt sorry for me or thought I was gay.

People would tell me all the time how I am such an awesome person, beautiful in looks. And how one day I would find the “right one.” Be it unknown to them I was dating, just not blasting it across social media. That was until I met Keith. He was different. He was serious. He didn’t just want to simply date, he wanted to court with the intent to marry.

I thought guys like him didn’t exist anymore.

It wasn’t until he proved his forever seriousness that I began to introduce him to my Facebook friends. We changed our profile picture to represent our togetherness, but I didn’t change my status until we got married.

Well…he changed my status!

The naked truth!

As I scroll through random pics on Instagram I notice many women enjoy taking pictures half naked. Why is that? I think it’s awesome that your body is banggn’ and you want to show it off. True you are 100% sexy, but you are still sexy with clothes on. Sorry, i’ve never done that, so I wonder what makes them want to take such pictures?

Before I proceed with this post, please understand I am in no position to judge anyone. I get men are visual but, when you post yourself half naked you leave nothing for the man to imagine. When a man sees a half naked woman he is only thinking of one thing and it’s not getting to know her personality.

True, many of these women who do this are awesome women with dreams and goals, but men are not concerned about that. They wonder how quickly they can get that g-string off of you. Your name is not important. Your amibitions are not a concern. If you love the Lord and go to church on Sundays are both things they could care less about.

I have many male friends and it’s anonymous that they would rather marry women who are sexy and wear more clothes. Who wants their mate showing all of their goodies to everyone on social media? To be one with someone is to be exclusive?

Now if you choose to be half naked with your mate and he’s cool with it…that’s a different blog.

But, if you’re single and looking for a serious relationship, my advice is put some clothes on. You can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar. And by honey I mean having clothes on.

I met my husband online. I was fully dressed and he desired to get to know who I was as a person first. And because we lived in two different states, he had no choice but to get to know me. But he knew in order to keep me he had to put a ring on it.

A serious man will put a ring on it!!

A serious woman will put clothes on!!
